A downloadable project for Windows

"VR for Autism" is a Virtual Reality application designed to help children with autism spectrum disabilities (PDD) to manage situations that are critical to them. The aim is to help children to deal with some of the most problematic aspects of the disease, immersing them, through the use of augmented reality, in situations that are difficult for them. Thanks to the advice of a psychologist from the AUSL of Rimini, Italy, we have identified two main aspects to work on: the skills of "social autonomy" and "problem solving". Those two aspects are closely linked to each other. In fact, with "social autonomy" we mean the ability to be able to autonomously carry out daily actions and manage the inconveniences that may derive from them. While, the term "problem solving", means the ability to solve problems. An example of a daily action is shopping. The user will have to look inside the supermarket for the products that are on her/his list, and then go to the cashier for payment. The inconveniences that can occur in this situation are various: from the loss of the wallet, to the meeting with an intrusive person, from the lack of a specific product, to ask a salesperson for information.

Project realized for the Virtual Reality course of the Polytechnic of Turin.

Autism is a disability, not a disease or a disorder.

But it's cool how you made a game that can prepare autistic people, or any other groups of people who have a hard time handling anything unexpected during a trip to the grocery store.

are any of you autistic?

Yes.

Just a note, on the game description. Autism isn't a disease, it's a disorder.
